Quiz Night and Easter Fair |
Recent Fundraising Events We had a very successful and enjoyable Quiz Night at the Railway Institute in March and raised almost £200. The quiz was expertly set by Anne and Sue and a delicious supper provided by Peter Watson. Look out for our next Quiz Night on 14th September. At Easter we were blessed with sunshine for our Fair. Our supporters enjoyed our various stalls and as usual at our tombola game where "You Can’t Lose” prizes flew off the table. We were supplied with delicious cakes by our kind volunteer bakers. We raised a total of £1561, enough to continue the essential work of caring for the 214 animals that were resident in the York Animal Home on the day of the fair. We thank the people of York & District for their generous support.’ |

What a simple but effective idea - could you do the same at your office? TSYS, Fulford, York maintain charity donation bins on all the floors of their York office. For 2013, they plan that all "BIN" donations will go to the York Branch of the RSPCA. On the 8 Feb 2013 their "Donate Day" will be the kick-off of that initiative. The staff get to help a worthy cause without the need to take their unwanted items to a charity shop - they just take them to work and when the bins are full, we will go and collect the donations. Such a simple but brilliant idea. Well done to the staff of TSYS and thank you so much on behalf of the shop and the animals you are helping. Pictured left are Joan, Community Champion from TSYS and RSPCA York Branch Manager, Angela, with the beginning of the donations for the RSPCA York Charity Shop. |

MICROCHIPPING AND NEUTERING Microchipping - RSPCA York believes that all dogs, cats and rabbits should be microchipped. We can microchip your pet for no more than £10, sometimes free depending on your circumstances. Neutering - If you are on Housing or Council Tax Benefit we can help you with the cost of neutering your pet. If you are not on these benefits then please call us, at the York Animal Home, to find out what help we can give you. We run free neutering schemes from time to time. |

Message from the Branch Manager2012 has been another busy year with more animals to re home than families willing to take them. We have nearly had to evacuate the home due to localised flooding on numerous occasions but thanks to the many supporters we now have on our evacuation register; we have lots of offers of accommodation for our animals, when the need to evacuate occurs. It's only a matter of time! During the year we successfully re homed 233 Dogs, 271 Cats, 51 Rabbits, 152 Small Animals and reunited many animals with their owners, thanks to the microchip. We neutered a total of 630 animals at the York Animal Home and microchipped 561 before they were re homed. At the end of 2012, we still had 211 animals in our care - if you know of someone who is thinking about a new pet for their family please ask them to consider a rescue animal first. Our community work continued with the vet at our welfare clinic carrying out 457 consultations, for people on low incomes and we assisted financially in the neutering of 197 pets. We ran two neutering events and issued free vouchers to enable 14 rabbits and 15 Staffordshire Bull Terriers to be neutered. We modernised too; with this new website being launched in August and we are now also on Facebook with 545 friends and 269 followers on Twitter, as at the end of 2012. Volunteers - This branch of the RSPCA cannot operate without the support of our wonderful volunteers. If you are interested in giving us some of your time then please check out the volunteer page on our website or email your details to volunteers@rspca-yorkhome.org.uk. Without our volunteers, the events would not be the same and a special thanks to the hardworking Fundraising Committee who raise £000's in vital funds, every year. 2012 Fundraising - what did our supporters do? -Marathons, Half Marathons and Fun Runs -Casino Night in Escrick -Big Green Market -Quiz Nights -Street Collections and Collection Tins -Kennel Sponsorship -We have even received donations from two newly married couples who requested that their guests make donations to us instead of buying them wedding presents. -A small mountain of food was donated at Xmas which will see us through January and most of February 2013. We even have a huge team of young supporters too - Many thanks go to: -Jade - for volunteering for us and for raising funds -Theo & Madison - coin collection -Amelia, Bethany, Leona & Megan - holding a jumble sale to raise funds -Alice from Knaresborough - holding a stall -Jacob from York and Lewis from Bishopthorpe - raising funds by selling buns -Hambleton and 1st Wilberfoss Brownies -Brownberrie School, Carleton Community High School, Dunnington Primary School and Eastrington Primary School -And many more - too numerous to mention Lastly, many thanks to the staff of RSPCA York Branch who look after the animals in all weathers, the staff and volunteers at the charity shop and to the Trustees who give their time freely to support such a worthy cause. |

Kennel Sponsorship Scheme When you walk around the York Animal Home you will see that some of our kennels are now individually sponsored. The sponsorship's are for twelve months and are gained, not by giving us cash but by supporting us with goods, skills or time to a value of £500. For example, Kennel 1 is sponsored by a local company who have given us a lot of their time, free of charge. They have jet washed all 50 of our kennels. See our Supporters Page to see how some of our business colleagues are supporting the work we do here. |
