VOLUNTEER
York
and District RSPCA branch could not manage without the dedicated work of our
volunteers, and we are always in need of extra help. You’d be surprised how
many opportunities there are to make a vital contribution to our work. As
ever, we are forever grateful for all the work that has been and is being
done by our wonderful volunteers. For security purposes, we will ask for the
names of two personal character referees and two passport photographs when
you join us.
HOME VISITORS
This is a vital service to ensure that our animals are re-homed responsibly and that people get the most from their new pet. After an initial training programme, you will contact and then visit potential adopters at a mutually convenient time.
GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
Are you good with a lawnmower or strimmer? Do you have an eye for landscaping or just enjoy gardening? We need people to help keep our grounds looking beautiful, especially in the summer months.
ANIMAL CARE
We are looking to recruit volunteers who, after training, will assist the paid staff in caring for the animals who are waiting for new homes. Volunteers need to be aware that this can be hard physical work involving cleaning and lifting – definitely not for those with bad backs!
DOG WALKING
Our
dogs need people to take them for walks. You will need to complete a
separate form to confirm that you have had a tetanus vaccination and do a
brief induction course, and then you can take our grateful doggies for a
lovely walk.
CAT SOCIALISING
We need cat lovers to help our feline residents become used to people
handling them and generally helping them become more confident. If you
are used to cats and would like to help please get in touch.
SHOP VOLUNTEERS
our shop on Gillygate so we need extra volunteers. We especially need people who have retail experience, or been in other roles which involve customer service, cash handling or merchandising. We would welcome anyone who could commit a regular block of time of at least half a day a week for a period of at least 6 months. We do also have a bank of volunteers who cannot manage a regular slot, but are happy to cover unexpected absence or when regular volunteers are on holiday.
FUNDRAISING
Could you run a stall? Can you bake? Could you lend a hand to set up or
clear up? Do you occasionally have time to help? If so, you would be welcome
to join our bank of volunteers upon whom we can call for specific events as
they occur through the year. We have street collections, tea and tombola
events, and our annual fairs. If you can help with any of these activities
please e-mail our Volunteer Coordinator on
volunteers@rspca-yorkhome.org.uk or alternatively speak to Angela
at the Animals’ Home on 07850 938364
