Phase Three: Supporting animals and adopters for the future

Finding an animal a new home is only part of the journey. Successful rehoming depends on giving animals the support they need to recover and helping adopters build positive, lasting relationships with their new companions.

Phase Three will create the facilities needed to support both animals and people throughout that process.

This final stage of the redevelopment will provide dedicated spaces for veterinary triage, animal care, behaviour consultations and adopter support. New meet-and-greet areas will allow potential adopters to spend time with animals in calm, welcoming surroundings, helping create better matches and more successful rehoming outcomes.

The redevelopment will also improve accessibility, visitor experience and facilities for staff and volunteers, ensuring York Animal Home can continue serving the community for decades to come.

While this phase may have the lowest direct impact on animal accommodation, it plays a vital role in ensuring animals receive the ongoing care, rehabilitation and support needed to thrive in their new homes.

Phase Three will deliver:

  • Dedicated veterinary triage and clinical care facilities
  • Improved spaces for animal assessments and rehabilitation
  • Purpose-designed meet-and-greet areas for adopters
  • Training and behaviour support facilities
  • Improved accessibility and visitor experience
  • Better facilities for staff and volunteers

Phase Three will help create not just a modern animal home, but a centre of excellence for animal welfare, rehabilitation and responsible pet ownership across our region.
