Help secure the future of RSPCA York Animal Home
For nearly 50 years, RSPCA York Animal Home has been a place of safety for animals with nowhere else to turn.
Every year, dogs, cats and small animals arrive frightened, abandoned, neglected or in need of urgent care. Some have been rescued from cruelty. Others have lost the only home they have ever known.
Whatever their story, they all need the same thing:
- A safe place to heal.
- A chance to recover.
- A chance to find a loving home.
For generations, York Animal Home has provided that chance. Today, we need your help to ensure we can continue doing so for decades to come.
Why we need to rebuild
The buildings that have served York's animals for more than half a century are no longer fit for the future.
Despite the dedication of our staff and volunteers, many of our facilities are ageing, difficult to maintain and no longer meet modern animal welfare expectations. Some accommodation is already unusable.
Our puppy facilities can only accommodate a fraction of the animals they were originally designed for.
Our cattery is increasingly challenging to maintain and future licensing requirements could place our ability to continue caring for animals at risk.
The animals deserve better. Together, we can build it.

Our Vision
We are undertaking a transformational £5 million redevelopment of York Animal Home.
This once-in-a-generation project will create modern, sustainable facilities designed around the welfare needs of today's animals and the demands of tomorrow.
The redevelopment will be delivered in carefully planned phases, allowing us to continue caring for vulnerable animals throughout construction.

Phase One
New cattery, puppy unit & community welfare hub

Phase Two
Modern dog rehabilitation facilities

Phase Three
Adopter, veterinary & operational facilities

More than an animal home
York Animal Home is part of the fabric of our community.
Thousands of local families have welcomed a beloved pet into their lives through our doors. Volunteers have given countless hours of support. Supporters have fundraised, fostered and championed animal welfare for decades.
This appeal is not simply about buildings. It is about protecting a place that means so much to so many people.
If you would like to support the appeal, please contact Lucy Lowthian, our Capital Campaign Lead, for further details.
