The welcoming face of the charity
Our volunteer retail assistants are the ones who people remember. The ones who have a smile when it's needed, who help find that extra special gift for someone in the shop.
If you've always had an interest in retail but were never sure where to start, this role is for you. You'll be based on the till and shop floor of our shops, greeting customers, helping with queries, and accepting donations. It's varied, fast paced, and brilliant for someone who loves talking to people.

Where can I volunteer?
What kind of skills do I need?
- Strong communication and teamwork
- Strong customer service with a friendly and approachable manner
- Enthusiastic and reliable
- Ability to work unsupervised and/or as part of a team
- Basic/good numeracy skills
But don't worry if you have some or none of these - we supply full training for you!
What skills will I learn?
- You will be directly helping to support the York Animal Home
- You will gain experience in a fast paced retail environment
- You will develop skills such as teamwork, communication and problem solving
- Full training is provided, which will boost your CV, and a reference can be provided if you volunteer with us for six months
- Most importantly: fun! We want you to enjoy your volunteering with us and being part of a friendly, welcoming team
How much time do I need to give?
We operate a volunteer led scheme at our shops, which means your committment is what you can give us! It can be anything from popping in for an hour or two to help tidy shelves, to a four hour shift on the till, or even all day. Nothing is too small, and everything helps. Your time is precious to us, and greatfully received.
